Notes: Julien Albertus of Kumpf et Meyer makes his wines as naturally as possible in a local cave on the outskirts of Rosheim—its cool climate perfect for production. In this region of Alsace, near the German border, aromatic wines reign supreme. Gewürztraminer, one of the most produced local varietals translates to ‘Perfumed Traminer.’ It also happens to be one of the varietals that Albertus has mastered. Since 2012, he’s been growing them biodynamically with as little intervention as possible, letting the grapes tell their own story. And those stories are rich—some of Albertus’ vines that date back all the way to the 17th century.
This ‘Badinerie’ is a beautiful expression of Albertus’ passion for his Alsace vines. 100% Pinot Auxerrois grown in marl and limestone soil. Most of the vines were planted in 1985. The grapes were destemed, followed by 4 days of skin contact. After pressing, the juice was aged for a year in stainless steel vats. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no added sulfites.
